How are tolls calculated?+
NHAI sets toll rates based on: vehicle type (car/LMV/HCV/multi-axle), distance, road category (national highway/expressway), one-way or return. Rates revised every 3 years usually.
FASTag itself has 5-year validity (sticker readability). Use unlimited times during this period. After 5 years, get free replacement from issuer bank with proof.
Insufficient balance penalty?+
If FASTag has insufficient balance at toll, you pay double toll fee in cash. Vehicle blacklisted until recharge. Always maintain minimum Rs 100-500 balance before highway trips.
Best route for cheap tolls?+
Older highways (NH-vs-Expressway): older NH cheaper but slower. Some routes have multiple toll plazas - avoid by alternate routes (longer but cheaper). Use Google Maps with toll info.
